The Kids from Yesterday

Chapter Six: Date with the Night
March 2016
Age 16

We were running as fast as we could. It was only a matter of time until they found out about us. It would take at least a day to get back to battery city, but the drac could’ve radioed for backup and they have stations everywhere.

“Can we slow down?!” Audrey wheezed. Mark shook his head and started to drag her behind him.

“No they’ll catch us!” Mark yelled over his shoulder. Audrey sighed and continued to run. We’ve been running for about an hour and it was starting to get dark.

“Shit! Are those headlights?!” I exclaimed stopping in my tracks. Sure enough there were two bright lights heading our way.

“Move!” Skizzy barked shoving us all into the brush, out of the way of the car. But as it drove past us, we noticed it was red and not black. We jumped out of the brush screaming and waving our arms for them to pull over.

Chapter Five: Fuck This Whole Wide World

Chapter Five: Fuck This Whole Wide World
March 2016
Age 16

Things were getting weird, Audrey was being more and more distant, she was even pulling away from Mark. Skizzy was fun to have around though and was really sweet, but she acted like she didn’t want to get close to anyone which was a shame. We’d been at the strip mall for a while now, and it was starting to feel like home. We hardly ever had any run-ins with dracs. I missed Freddie like crazy, so I had my good days and my bad days. On my bad days I would be too depressed to even move. But on my good days, you wouldn’t have even thought he was dead. I talked to him from time to time. It helped me cope. Today was a bad day.

“Wish you were here Freds…” I sighed as I sat in a booth at the sandwich shop. Nobody went in there because all the food was bad.

The Kids From Yesterday

Chapter Four: Give 'Em Hell Kid
January 2016 Age 17

It’s been about a month since Freddie's death and it was getting even colder. We didn't stay at the farm house because I didn't want to be there any longer than we had to. I couldn't even go in the house because I didn't want to see who killed him. Mark and Audrey told me it was a group of dracs that had taken over the house. Audrey realized that if she hadn't ducked that Freddie would still be alive and she would still be apologizing every minute of every day until I told her to shut up last week.... Audrey and Mark were getting more serious and were spending even more time together. It was a little awkward because I was starting to feel like their third wheel or something.

We were walking around Zone 5 for a couple hours after having packed up our camp from the night before when we came across an abandoned strip mall.

“Should we check it out?” Audrey asked nodding her head towards the building.

Chapter Three: Not Okay
November 2015, Age: 16

We'd been on the run for a little less than a month now and things were getting tough. We were running out of food, snapping at each other due to exhaustion, and needed to find a permanent place to stay.

"I wish we could go home..." Audrey sighed as we were walking around in Zone 4.

"Yeah well we can't without being arrested for treason..." I grumbled. Audrey looked at me hurt. I just starred at her grimy face. She backed down and started sulking.

"Jen- erm Python, knock it off." Freddie warned. He was kinda like our leader out here. I rolled my eyes and trudged on. Mark wrapped his arm around Audrey to comfort her. He was being unusually quiet today.

We kept walking for about another hour when Mark finally spoke.

"Tomorrows your birthday Freddie er I mean Nightmare" he said quietly while making a check mark in a tiny calendar he carried around with him.

Chapter One:One Tiny Act of Rebelion
October, 2015 Age 16

“Bitch get your fucking ass dressed we are going out!” my best friend Audrey announced as she entered my room. I immediately jumped up from my bed where I had been drawing and smirked at her attempt to use as much profanity as she could in one sentance. I was still in my all white school uniform.

“Mark’s waiting outside isn’t he?” I asked as I nodded my head towards the window. Audrey rolled her eyes and nodded. Mark was our other best friend. Audrey had had a thing for him for a while now, and that was strange since she usually gets bored with guys.

“Will you hurry up and get dressed? Or do I have to pick your outfit out for you?” Audrey sighed impatiently as she walked over to my closet.
