The Black Parade (fanfic) Chapter 7

Chapter Seven: Jam Session

*Listen to This Is How I Disappear*
“1, 2- 1, 2, 3 GO!!” yelled Bob as he taped his drum sticks together as he counted them in. They all started playing at once, not too heavy but not too lenient on the strings, Ray, Frankie and Mikey strummed their guitars. Bob bashed at the drums, kicking out the sick beat while Gerard waited for sixteen counts before he finally shouted “GO!” into the microphone that stood before him.
“To unexplain the unforgivable,
“Drain all the blood and give the kids a show!
“By street light, this dark night not say what’s down below.
“There’s thing that I have done,
“You never should ever know!
“And without you is how I disappear,
“And live my life alone,
“Forever now!
“And without you is how I disappear,
“And live my life alone.
“Forever now!”
The boys kept on playing, not knowing that Zena had woken up to the sound of their music. She sat bolt upright in her bed, and listened.
“Wow” she said to herself as she got out of bed and walked out of her suite. She took the elevator up to the floor above, when she got out of the elevator, the music got louder! She could finally make out the words to the song being played.
“To heaven!
“Well heaven knows!
“That without you is how I disappear,
“And live my life alone,
“Forever now!”
She walked up to the door from which the music was coming from and rested her ear against it. She listened intently, taking in the beauty of it.
“Can you hear me cry out to you?
“Words I thought I’d choke on, figure out.
“I’m really not with you anymore,
“I’m just a ghost.
“So I can’t hurt you anymore!
“So I can’t hurt you anymore!”
Zena placed her hand on the door knob and opened the door slightly so she could see them play. She gasped! ‘How amazing!’ she thought.
She watched as they all rocked out. Gerard looked at the door and smiled as he sang:
“Come inside, Zena!” instead of “Let me go, FUCK!”
Zena laughed and opened the door. She walked and sat down at the table.
She was just as breath-taken as she was when they Welcomed her to the Black Parade.
She sat there and watched as the beautiful boys played before her. At some points, Gerard would cast a cheeky look at her and winked as he sang,
“And without you is how I disappear’
“And without you is how I disappear.”
She blushed and looked down at her feet, her heart fluttering. ‘Did he just wink at me?’ she thought, the music still ringing in her ears. ‘Maybe he might like me… I hope he does!’ she bit on her bottom lip as Gerard sang the last line.
Zena leaped to her feet and clapped her hands.
The boys all bowed, then stood straight again. They all laughed and sat with Zena at the table.
“So what do you think?” asked Ray.
“You guys are so freaking amazing!” Zena almost shouted.
“Haha!! You really think so?” asked Frank, who was strumming his guitar in a soft rhythm.
“YES!” Zena smiled widely.
“We’re glad you like our music so much.” Said Bob, tapping his drum sticks on the table softly.
Zena thought for a second before asking, “So how did you guys get here-to the Black Parade that is?”
She looked at Gerard and saw his saddened expression. ‘Shouldn’t have brought it up, Zee!’ she scolded herself mentally.
“Well…” Frank started, “We were all killed because of something. For me it was a car accident that I got caught up in.”
Ray played with a lock of his ‘fro before speaking, “Bob and I were killed in an armed robbery at a Nordstrom store in Jersey.”
Neither Gerard nor Mikey spoke, Zena turned to them.
“Uh…” started Mikey, “Gee and I don’t really talk about it much.” Mikey turned to his older brother.
“Do you want me to say it, bro?” he said.
Gerard shook his head, “No… I’ll say it.”, he shifted in his seat. Zena watched, waiting for a reply.
“Well, I-I met this girl, she was so beautiful and I loved her so much. We became a couple and she would terrorise me, use me. She was a vampire. Hard to believe-I know. Then one night she killed me…” Gerard trailed off towards the end of his speech.
Mikey finished what Gerard had stared saying, “Then I went to look for him. I found him, only he was already dead. She also found me and finished me off too. We were both welcomed here together. And, like the others, we chose to stay.”
Zena felt her eyes tearing up. She wanted to hug them all.
“That’s so sad…” she said, whipping away the tears that rolled down her face.
“We know…” said Ray, “So tell us, how did you get here?”
“I was at a party with my only friend at the time. And a group of people were being very rude to me so I left. I decided to walk home to clear my head and this creep followed me and shot me in the back and I bled to death.” Said Zena, remembering it mad her sad.
“We all met terrible endings. But that was just the start of something new.” Said Mikey, smiling, “We’re all here together now and that’s all that matters.”
Everybody else murmured their agreements.
“Now, who’s up for another song?” asked Bob as he got up and went to sit at his drum kit.
“I am! I am!” yelled Frankie as he rushed over, guitar in hand.
“Me too!” shouted Ray as he did the same as Frank.
“Me three!” chimed Mikey, grabbing his bass from its stand and resuming his position next to Frank. “Aren’t you gonna rock with us Gee?” asked Mikey. Gerard looked up at his little brother and smiled, it seemed as if all the troubles and terrors of his past life we gone.
“Yes I will!” he cheered and run up to the microphone stand, “Okay, Zena. This song is called Dead!”
Bob counted them in once more and they all played magnificently. Zena even sang along to the chorus near the end of the song, getting up and standing next to Gerard, singing into the microphone.
When the last riff was strummed, the last beat bashed on the drums, and the last note sung, they all retired to the couch after packing away all the instruments.
They all sat and talked, Mikey had gotten up the fetch six mugs of hot coffee.
“So do you play any instrument, Zee?” asked Frank as Mikey handed him a mug.
Zena was astonished when Frank called her Zee. They had only been friends for not even a whole day and he was already calling her that. Not that it annoyed her, she liked that name.
“No, not really. I have attempted to learn how to play the piano, but failed. Then I tried guitar and-“ Zena was interrupted by Ray.
“You learnt guitar?”
“Tried too.” Said Zena, “But I don’t think it worked out that well. I mean, I can play a few chords but I think I suck.”
“Here.” Said Ray, gave her his guitar, “Play us something.”
“Uh, okay. I must warn you though. I suck at playing guitar.” Said Zena before taking the pick in her right hand and placing her left hand fingers on the frets. She strummed, slowly at first, building up her rhythm.
They boys sat and listened to her play. Zena switched chords and strummed some more. When she finished playing she handed the guitar back to Ray.
“You’re better than you give yourself credit for.” Said Ray.
“Haha. Thanks, Ray.” Said Zena, blushing.
“You’re welcome.”
Frank suddenly got up and walked towards the bathroom, “Excuse me guys, uh, nature calls.” He giggled then disappeared in the hall.
“I think he’s planning something…” said Mikey, a concerned look on his face.
“Me too.” Said Gerard.
After a few minutes Frank returned, a cheeky grin on his face.
“Franks…” started Bob, “What did you do in there? Besides take a piss.”
Frank face-palmed, “Bob! What business do you have to know what I do in the bathroom.” He said mischievously, “I was just doing my business you know.” Frank tried to stifle a laugh.
“Uhu…” said Ray, “Whatever Frank. We all know what you’re up to.”
Zena was confused, Gerard saw this and leant closer to her so he could explain while the others argued whether Frank was ‘planning’ something or not.
“Frank is a prankster, he can’t resist a good prank, and he almost always gets away with it.” explained Gerard.
“Oh. Haha! I wonder what he’s got in store for you guys.” Laughed Zena. Gerard smiled at her, just the mere sound of her laugh sent electric pulses through his veins.
He broke through his daydream when Frank fell on top of him.
“HEY!” shouted Gerard, “What’s the big idea?!”
“Sorry Gee!” yelled a hysteric Frank, “Bob pushed me!”
Bob looked over at Gerard and Frank, “Yeah, because I thought it would be funny.”
“PLAY FIGHT!!” yelled Mikey as he pulled Frank of Gerard and started to wrestle with his brother.
All the while Zena couldn’t stop laughing at them. Soon all the boys were stuck in the action. They were all laughing and shouting. It was a surprise no one else in the hotel came knocking on the door, asking for some peace and quiet.
