CHAPTER ONE
The alarm rang waking me up out of sleep. It was 6:30 and time to get ready for school. I unwillingly got out of my bed and made my way toward the bathroom. I could smell breakfast being cooked downstairs and it made my mouth water. I washed my face, combed my hair and let my nose follow the smell of pancakes and coffee. My mom was sitting at the table, reading today’s paper. She was a fairly tall woman, with blond curls surrounding her beautiful blue eyes. Her face held a smile that was inviting and warm.
“Good morning, honey,” she sipped on coffee and took a bite of her pancake. “Are you hungry? Your brother made breakfast but had to leave for work right after”
Smiling to myself, I grabbed a plate, two pancakes, and a fork, and then sat by my mom. My brother always made the best pancakes. I was so happy when she said he made them. “Yeah I’m starving, what time are you leaving?” I couldn’t wait for my mom to leave. I like getting ready to music, and I couldn’t do that if she was home.
“Right now” she took her half empty cup and plate to the sink. “It’s going to be a late night so you’ll be home alone for a little while.” Grabbing her purse and keys she told me goodbye and went out the front door.
As soon as I heard her close the car door I ran upstairs and started busting ‘’No Dip’’ by Silvio Ecomo. I plugged in my flat iron and started to apply my makeup. I wanted to do something I knew no one else would have the guts to do at my school. I grabbed my liquid red and black eyeliner and put it all round my eyes until it was right below my eye brows. While I let that dry I started straightening my already sort of straight hair. When I thought I wasn’t going to get it any more straightened, I grabbed my hair gel, and made spikes going across the lower part of my hair horizontally. I finished my eyes and went into my room to get dressed. By this time I had gotten tired of pop music and put on some Rancid. Since I like my makeup matching my clothes, I grabbed my red corset and put on black skinnys. To top it all off I put on my knee high Converse. When I realized that it was 7:15 I ran out of my room grabbing a My Chemical Romance sweater, my messenger bag, iPod and phone. I ran out of my house, locking the door behind me remembering that I forgot to put my plate in the sink. Brushing it off, I ran to school. I didn’t bother taking the bus because I didn’t like the students who rode it.
After 30 minutes of nonstop running I finally reached the front doors of my school. Everybody was staring at me and gossiping, but after being picked on for what I wore and dressed I was used to it. I made my way to my locker and open it. Lucky for me my locker was right by the one very cute and popular boy that everybody just loves. I chose not to like him because of that, and I hoped that I would get to my first class before he could socialize with me.
“Hey, I was wondering if you had anybody taking you to the dance,” he asked before I could escape. Part of me wanted to go with him, just because it would make Jessica mad. She had a huge crush on him. Another part of me wanted to punch him and walk away. I would get in trouble if I did that . . . but it would be funny.
“ Umm no, but I’m not going so I don’t need anybody taking me” I slammed my locker shut and walked away as fast as I could, leaving him alone to be irritated and a little bit embarrassed. First period was history. It seemed to be going on forever and I thought I was going to die. Second period was math, the one class that I wished I could be alone. I was really good at it and it was my best subject. That seemed to be a bad thing to other people. Kids usually copied off me and then called me a nerd. After another two hours of classes it was finally lunch. When most people would be eating nasty school lunch or hanging out, I made my way to the music room. That was my favorite place to be when I could be anywhere at school. I dropped my bag at one of the chairs, sat down, and then started to decipher guitar chords.
When I was fed up and decided that I didn’t want to try anymore. I put my things away and started for the door. That’s when I heard someone screaming. It was coming from the main entrance and everybody seemed to be running. I couldn’t see what they were running from until bodies started dropping and I could see what made them afraid. They were running from men in white masks and suits with weapons that I couldn’t see. Terrified, my thoughts ran my mind. I didn’t know what to do. I stood frozen when I saw my old best friend running for the door. But before she could even touch the door handle she fell and splattered blood all over the window. I screamed and tears were running down my face. I could see the men coming toward the door. I had to think fast. I wiped away my tears pushed the teacher’s desk over to the door and pushed it over on its side. It was a lot heavier that I was expecting and the noise it made when it crashed on the floor made me jump. By this time the masked men were pushing on the door trying to open it. I was a little relived when they were having a hard time and left, but all hope left when I heard the door in the art room open. I ran towards the music supply closet and tried to open it to only find out that it was locked. My eyes looked franticly at the damaged room. There was nothing that would hide me. I heard something that threw me off. It wasn’t gun shots, but sounded like ray guns from movies. There was crashing in the other room, as if someone was falling. Then door connecting the music and art room together swung open. I closed my eyes not wanting to look at the murderers and broke in to a sob. I was waiting for death to hit me, but instead I felt someone’s arm around me.
‘’its okay, we’re here to save you,” someone said. The shock and pain was too much for me and I fell into a black nothingness.
