NEW YORK NEW YORK

Viseting new York for the first time and my dad is leavening me and a family friend (he's my age as well XD) to walk around by our selfs as he and my friends dad go to bissnesss meetings.
Does anyone who lives there, have any suggestions on where I go. I don't mean tourist spots, I'm looking for somthing you wouldn't do unless you lived in new York, and only the locals know. Im a block or two from times square, so that's a starting point !!! =D
