“So...” Fun Ghoul said after everyone was in their rooms. “You really want to do this?”
“If it’s going to get us somewhere to stay a couple nights, then yes. I’m so sick of sleeping in that Suburban.” My answer was straightforward, but not exactly to the point. There was more to the answer.
The fact that this is truly all about revenge. Not even my own revenge though. For Flash Drive. I’d rather go in with her, than have her go alone.
I wasn’t going to be saying that anytime soon though.
“Uh huh.” There was something in his voice that made me think that he didn’t believe me. I guess these guys are truly smarter than I think. I’ve got to stop underestimating people, and thinking too big of myself.
“Oh fine.” I caved, there was no use in keeping secrets. After our mission we’d probably never see these guys again. “Flash Drive wants revenge, that’s it. It may not be my battle, but at the same time I feel it is.”
“It is your battle.” He mumbled back at me.
“Whatever.”
He was at a loss for words after that. I didn’t have anything I wanted to say either. We ended up just sitting opposite each other in a booth.
Periodically he would glance at the clock. Other than that it was a contest to see who could go the longest without looking at the other.
This was something I was good at. I could focus my gaze at something almost nonexistent in the distant, and just stare at it. It almost looked like I was seeing something that wasn’t there. Truthfully I was just daydreaming about fictional worlds where anything is possible.
“Were up.” Fun Ghoul finally announced after one final look at the clock. It was midnight. “Go wake up someone from your crew to do watch.”
He got up to go wake up Party, and I got up and went into the guest room.
I looked around at everyone on the floor, sound asleep. Acidic Venom was on the bed. I guess she won that war, no surprise there.
I would have woken her up for watch so I could have the bed, but I knew better than to do that. First of all, I was glad to see her sleeping for once. Something that didn’t happen often. Second, whenever her watch was up she would have kicked me out of the bed anyway.
In the end I decided to wake up Radio Star for watch. I felt like she would be least likely to bite my head off for waking her up at such an hour.
“Hmugh.” She groaned as I shook her awake.
“Get up, it’s your watch.” I whispered to her.
“Kay.” She got up to go to the booths.
“It’s with Party.” I added as she walked out of the room.
With Radio gone, I took her spot on the floor, and drifted off to sleep pretty soon.
I woke up in the morning to the banging of pots and pans.
“Everyone Up!” Party Poison was shouting.
As per usual in any situation I got up, and started my day right away. Everyone else in my crew was getting up sluggishly. The guys too were pretty tired, even Party who got us all awake.
“Coffee?” Kobra Kid asked me, and I sat down in a booth with a can of Power Pup. I noticed he, and the other Fabulous Killjoys had already gotten mugs of coffee for themselves.
“Ew, no.” I scrunched my nose up at the thought of coffee.
“What?!” Most all of them exclaimed. Even Flash Drive, Radio Star, Electric Aftermath, and Beautiful Blood joined their surprise.
“It’s disgusting. Chances are I’ll be more awake than you all day anyway.” I replied.
“Same explanation here.” Venom said, raising her hand guiltily.
“You’re just weirdos.” Fun Ghoul remarked.
“Thanks!” Me and Venom said in unison. We both just laughed at each other.
“Okay then.” Party Poison said starting to get things onto an important topic. “When we’re done here, we’ll get things together for the mission.”
Everyone just mumbled agreements, but me being me, had to be different.
“Sir, yes Sir!” I exclaimed excitedly, and began quickly devouring my food.
“Too early for that much energy.” Jet Star commented. I just chuckled, and continued to eat my Power Pup at an average pace.
The meal was pretty much silent. The air filled with the low sounds of chewing and slurping. No one was talking though. This just left me to my thoughts.
I was mostly concerned about the mission. I’ve never done anything like this, and neither has my crew. I wonder what they’re thinking about right now? Probably something similar to me.
As Party said, when we all finished breakfast we got right on to getting ready.
