The Afterlife part 5

"So let me get this straight. I'm supposed to kill some dark queen. What's her name again?" I asked.
"Nymphoria." Briar reminded me.
"So I'm supposed to kill her. How exactly?"
"Your abilities of course. In the prophecy it is said the one marked with symbols will be able to control everything in order to defeat any evils."
"Uh huh." All this was so confusing. I was dead. That much believed now. I just can't imagine myself killing someone. Never had I ever wanted someone dead, let alone someone I don't even know.
"Don't worry. I know someone who will help you. In the mean time you should try to home your abilities. That will require another of my friends help. He lives across the Thames River."
"Wait. The Thames River, isn't that in England? I'm pretty sure I've never been to England in my life. So how can I be in England now?"
"That's the Afterlife for you. It likes to throw some unexpected things at you." Briar chuckled. "Now the Thames is a few hours from here, so you can't go one foot. According to the prophecy though, you can fly."
"With wings? Like an angel?" I asked Briar as she got up and starting looking through some jars.
She finally found what she was looking for, and took a single pill from one of the jars. "Exactly. Take this." She handed me the pill. "It will initiate your abilities for now until you can control them yourself."
"Great." I said sarcastically, but swallowed the pill as I was told. "How long until this kicks in?"
"Should only be a few minutes. I should warn you though, that it may activate more than just you wings. Also, you probably won't be able to retract you wings until the pill wears off."
"Keeps getting better. So how do I get to the Thames exactly?"
"Just follow this map." Briar handed me a map. Luckily the path was mostly straight forward. "Let's go outside before your wings come out and wreck something in here."
Tree, and I followed Briar out to the street. Just in time too.
We'd barely walked in the street when I heard Tree gasp in front of me. I guessed my wings had come. I twisted my neck to get a look at them.
They were beautiful. Soft ivory feathers covered the strong muscles that I'm sure could take me anywhere.
I decided to take a chance at flapping them once or twice. I imagined it would feel weird, but it was surprisingly natural.
"The map leads directly to my friend, Todd's house. Just tell him I sent you. Chances are he won't believe you, so take this." Briar took off her tear drop shaped necklace, and placed it around my neck.
"Thanks. I guess I'm off." I couldn't wait to experience tactual flying. Funny, I didn't even know what I was doing, but at the same time felt like I knew everything about flying.
I took off running down the street, flapping my wings as hard as I could. My feet left the ground, and I was off.

To be continued...
