Gerards pov
...................................................................................................................................................
All of us were pratically sitting on each other, crammed into deck chairs on the roof of Franks
multi-storey apartment. It was one of the tallest buildings in the city, and the veiw was incredible.
Of course cities are never quiet, but I kinda find thats what makes them special. The constant rythmic traffic on the highways, the occasional distant siren, and if you listen really closely, you can hear the whispers of peoples voices. Basically cities never shut up, there a lot more exciting then the quiet of the county-side.
Except maybe a desert wilderness, or a fir tree wood, full of wolves.
That would maybe be kinda cool.
It was a roof-top garden, filled with potted plants and ferns. In the middle there was quite a large tree, a good rain shelter if it was wet. It was early winter, so its colours were starting to fade into darker browns, before they started dropping.
Everyone was looking up, waiting.
It had been Steph's idea.
I think she was secretly a bit of an astronamy fan.
Not that anyone would care, it was some pretty amazing stuff.
We were here to see a metiore shower, she told us about it last week.
I think that was one of the reasons i liked Steph, she was almost never afraid to be exactly who she was, even if it meant being bullied or beaten up.
I wouldn't say she was skinny but she wasn't fat either, just half way beteen. She never wore make-up, or anything of the sort and never went out of her way to look pretty, most of the time she just wore hoodies, jeans and flat shoes. She was quite pale, and had long ginger hair that hung half way down her back. That kinda showed she had guts, having not dyed it; I knew she'd been teased for being ginger. I mean, what is that about? Just taking the piss out've someone, because they have a rare hair colour?
Frank had brought along his new 'friend' (we all knew she was more to him) called Jamia.
She was very nice from what I'd noticed, and obviously made Frank happy. I thought as an obsever they had a lot in common.
And of course Lindsey was here, beautiful as always. I'd been seing her loads the past week, even if it was just for a coffee. We spoke on the phone a lot too, mostly for hours on end.
Mikey and Bob were here too. Suprisingly it wasn't awkward at all, it was if we were just a big gang of friends who'd known each other for years and year. In Mikeys case thats true, but still.....
"Wow, look...." Steph pointed to the sky.
A small orange flame like object appeared from the sky, before tumbling towards the earth and vanishing behind the horizon of the city skyline.
It was the first of many that appeared, showering down from the heavens like shooting stars......
It was very pretty, I'd glad she'd made us come.
Somehow it wouldn't look as good from my apartment window.
I looked over, to see Frank and Jamia holding hands (I knew it!) and looking up in awe.
Steph had a large smile on her face, and was standing on the railings of the roof, looking as though she'd been waiting for this for years.
To be honest she probably had.
Ray stood next to her, and put one arm around her shoulders.
Bob just looked up and went, "pretty...." Making everyone laugh.
It went on for a solid two minutes, before the last one fell and vanished.
There was silence for about a minute before Lindsey summed it up, "that was beautiful...."
Everyone murmured in agreement, before getting off the chairs and stretching.
"Well," Frank said, "everyone's coming back to my place for a round of twister and some Kool-Aid."
"Yeah, sounds fun....." Ray replied, before saying "As long as you don't pretend to be Sandy from Grease again....."
"I'm not promising anything.....Maybe I'll be Danny this time....."
Cheesy ending. he he .
