I was in the passenger seat of Rays Mitsubishi. For once though the radio wasn’t blaring Bryan Adams classics, silence rang through the air. We were almost speeding down the highway, in the direction of the hospital Gerard said Frank had been taken to. “Did he mention what was up with Frank?” my voice was almost shaking.
“No,” Ray said before pausing. “Knowing Frank though, it could be anything from a busted lung, to a cough” He smiled slightly “I wouldn’t worry until we see him.”
Almost ten minutes later we were pulling into the parking lot. I spotted Gerard at the entrance; the situation had obviously caught him off guard, as it looked like he was wearing comic strip pyjamas under a heavy duty coat. We rushed over. “What’s up with him?” Ray asked. “I dunno, I was waiting for you!” he replied, and Ray sighed, frustrated. I grabbed both of their jacket sleeves and pulled them into the reception. A small, pale woman was sitting at the desk, shuffling papers.
“Frank Iero please?” I asked. She pointed down the corridor. I muttered a quick thanks, before dragging Gerard and Ray in the direction she’d pointed. We couldn’t find him in any wards, or even waiting rooms, after looking for half an hour.. I was getting incredibly frustrated, as no one even knew what was wrong with him. “Wait a minute, I’ll call Bob…” said Gerard pressing a speed dial number on his phone. He held it to his ear for a minute, before cursing, “Stupid hospital reception…”
“Wait a minute…” Ray said, looking down the corridor with a puzzled expression, “Isn’t that Bob?” He was pointing at a figure scanning on of the vending machine’s contents. “Yeah, it is” said Gerard before running down the corridor. “Bob!... BOB!”
Bob turned grinning, “Oh Gerard. Bout time you guys showed up!” he turned to me and Ray. “Ah, shut up,” Gerard grinned back “What’s up with Frank? Is he alright?”
“Um yeah.”
“What happened?” Bob smiled before replying,
“I’ll let Frank explain… It’s an interesting story ….” He led us down a long corridor before turning left into a ward we hadn’t looked in. At the end of the ward was the bed that contained Frank, who was deeply absorbed in the fifth Harry Potter book. When we entered though, he smiled and looked up. “Hi guys!” he almost shouted. Ray raised an eyebrow, “Well?” Frank looked puzzled “Well what?” Gerard shoved his shoulder, “What bloody happened?”
Franks eyes lit up, “Oh. Well, it’s a long story….”
“You’ve already ruined our evening plans, so we might as well hear it…” Gerard replied. “Looks like you had busy evening plans…” Frank said, eyeing Gerard’s pyjama pants. Gerard raised an eyebrow,
"Okay, okay…. I was in star bucks reading,” he gestured towards his book. “And I had a coffee. It was really nice. Well anyway, there was this woman next to me, with some kind of weird cake thing…. And we were at the station place, where you get all your sugar and stuff, you know?” We all nodded. Bob must’ve heard the story before, as he was back at the vending machine.
“So she was getting all her sugar, and the other crap… and she picks up a knife, just as I’m heading for a table. And she dropped it…. And you can guess where it landed.” He lifted his trousers, revealing a small cut with five stitches. “And of course with me being me,…. I kind of spilt my coffee. All down my pants.” He gestured to large stains covering his jeans.
Gerard burst out laughing, before saying “That’s it?” Frank nodded. “Dude, you scare the hell out of us, just because you spilt your coffee and cut your leg?” Ray said, starting to laugh. Frank smiled, before hopping off of the bed. “Yeah, sorry about that. And eh…” He smiled at me, “Sorry about your, eh, date…” I grinned.
“Just as long as your okay…” He smiled reassuringly.
“I’m fine, girl!”
Just then Mikey burst in, with a really dramatic entrance. “Frank, are you okay?” He sounded really out of breath. Frank sighed, “Gerard you explain, I can’t be bothered….” Gerard grinned.
“Okay, but I’ll probably edit bits…” He put his arm around Mikey, led him down the corridor, and started going on about how Frank had wet his pants in a Star Bucks, and got kidnapped by a bunch of people who hate him. Something along those lines. Not that anyone could possibly hate Frank.
Ray took my hand, “Come on I’ll take you home” I grinned. He took me back to his car.
"I blame Mikey" I said, opening the passenger door. He laughed.
"So do I. He wasn't even there, but it was most definetley his fault." He started sining Blink 182 under his breath as we were in the mitsubishi, "In the car, I just can't wait, to pick you up on out very first date...."
"What an awesome first date that was..." I said to him.
"Sure was!" He grinned. "There was something missing though..."
"Oh yeah?" I raised an eyebrow. And that was when he leaned over and kissed me.
