Famous Living Dead (part 6)

Ray's flashback part 2:
When we thought all hope was lost, the zombie suddenly let go, and lifelessly fell onto the floor. A police man stood behind it, with a gun in his hand. “Always go to the head. It's where they're most sensitive.” The police man said. He jogged up to Lucy and I, and plied her off the gate. I climbed over the fence, and sat down beside Lucy. The police man inspected her wounded leg, and frowned. There were about six deep punctures on her left calve, surrounded by raw skin and blood. Lucy wept in pain. I held her in my arms, and ran my fingers across her soft cheek. My tears fell onto her fragile face. “I'm sorry to break this to you, but there's nothing we can do here.” The police man let down. “There's gotta be SOMETHING!” I cried out. “I'm sorry, but no one can fight off the virus with a zombie bite that deep.” “Virus?” “Yes, virus. The dead are rising from their graves because of some sort of virus that's taking over them. When a zombie bites a human, the virus travels into the victim's blood system in less than 0.5 seconds. There's no way she can survive this attack.” The police man explained. “Then what do we do now?” I deeply frowned. “Shoot her.” The police man started to pull a .40 out of his holster. “WAIT!” I commanded. The police man stopped. “She's already converting, you can tell by the change in her body heat, and how her pupils are dilating.” I processed the agonizing information, and faintly nodded. “Just give me a couple minutes with her.” I begged. “Fine. But just a couple though, conversation takes about 15 minutes.” The police man told me. I looked away from him, and into Lucy's eyes. Her pupils were taking over the white of her eyes, making her whole eye almost black. “What's going to happen to me Ray?” Lucy asked. “They're gonna give you shot, then take you to the hospital. So you're going to be put to sleep soon.” I lied. I couldn’t tell her the truth. I just couldn't. “Oh, okay.” She smiled. “It hurts so much though.” Lucy said. “I know it does sweetie, I know it does.” I began to choke up tears. “Why are you crying hon?” She innocently asked. “I just love you so much.” I quietly said. “Aww, I do too.” Lucy placed her hand on my stubble covered cheek, and ran her fingers through my thick, curly hair. “When we get back home, I'm gonna attempt braiding this.” Lucy laughed. “You can do whatever you want with my hair.” I forced a smile, with tears still in my eyes. “It h-h-rrtss soooo mu-cchh Raa-yyy.” Lucy slurred. Concerned, I looked at the police man. “Is she slurring?” He asked. “Yes she is, why though?” “One of the last signs of conversation. The virus is taking over her abilities to speak, that's why zombies can't talk. It's time for her to go.” The police man puffed as he unstrapped the gun from his holster. I clamped my eyes shut, and took in a deep breath. “They're gonna give you the shot now Lucy honey.” I whispered. “Ok-kk-ay-y Raa-a-yy, se-eee ya wh-wh-wh-eeen I-I wa-wa-kkke up-pp.” She smiled. “I'll be waiting for you.” I comforted. I sincerely stared at Lucy's completely black eye. I wiped the hair out of her forehead, and gently kissed it. “I will love you forever.” I whispered as I held her left hand up, and ran my fingertip across her engagement ring. “I will love you forever.” I repeated. I stood up, and walked behind the police man. He walked up to Lucy and dug the gun into her neck, so she wouldn't see it. “You're going to go to sleep now sweetie.” “Oh-oh-kkk-ay-ayyy.” Lucy responded. She looked up at me, and warmly smiled. I looked away from her suffering face. The police man slowly pulled the trigger down.
It was the loudest sound I've ever heard.
