POV- Mikey- Blair was starting to worry me. It had been three hours, and we still couldn’t get her out of my room. Frank and Gerard has cleaned up all the broken glass and put the phone away. I knocked on my bedroom door once again, hoping I would get out at least a word from her.
“Blair, come on. It’s been three hours, at least let me know you’re alive.”
No response.
I sighed heavily, and walked back into the living room. Frank and Gee were on the couch watching Walking Dead reruns.
“Frank, it’s your turn, she won’t respond to me.”
“Why me, can’t Gerard go!?”
“Well, no, because she’s in my room, which means he is probably the reason she’s upset, now go, and no whining.”
“Fine.” He walked off in a 5year old tantrum manner.
POV-Frank- I knocked on Mikey’s door.
“Madam Blair, are you alright?” I said in a funny accent, hoping to make her laugh.
I heard muffled footsteps, and suddenly I was face to face with a puffy eyed Blair. She sniffled, and I hugged her.
“Happy Birthday, Blair.”
She hugged back tightly. “Some birthday, huh?”
“Yeah, I’m sorry, for, whatever made you so upset. Do you want to talk about it?”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes,”
“Okay then, come into Mikey’s room and we can talk.”
We pulled out of the hug, and I walked over to the end of Mikey’s bed to sit. Blair sat next to me, her head lying on my shoulder. She looked so tired and worn down from all the crying.
“Well, you know how I don’t like secrets that I do have the right to know being kept from me?”
“Yeah,”
“Well, Gerard told me last night that my Consoler called him and said that since I’m 16 I can be legally an adult as long as they helped look after me. Well he said it as if she called him today, he said about a week we should hear news.”
“And…”
“She called earlier and said that I was an adult, and then told me that she and Gee had been speaking of this since my parents went on business. Tell me now that I don’t have a right to be mad?”
“Blair you do have a right, but don’t you think you over reacted? Maybe Gee had a good reason for keeping the secret from you.”
“Who’s side are you on?” she said in a joking tone.
“Mine, although I don’t really have a side. Now, go talk to Gee and get this straightened out. It’s been three hours. A new Walking Dead starts in two hours and we are supposed to watch it all together!”
“Okay, okay, I’m going!”
POV-Blair- I didn’t want to talk to Gerard, not because I was mad. I wasn’t…anymore. I was terrified of what he’s going to say. I walked into the living room, stopping at the doorway. Mikey walked into his room, he and Frank began to play some video game. I could hear them laughing and yelling at the zombies. I wanted to run off and join them, but I knew I couldn’t.
I quickly turned my attention back to Gerard, who was still watching Walking Dead. I don’t think he even knew I was standing there, watching him.
“G-Gerard…?”
He looked up, his face didn’t smile or frown. It remained expressionless. He clicked off the TV, and rose from his spot on the totally comfy couch. Before I knew what was going on, he hugged me. I hugged back, but it was awkward. We pulled away, I tried not to show that I didn’t want to do this.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Tell you what?”
“That you have been talking to my console since my parents went on business? Oh, and she called today. I’m an adult, kinda, and she’s how I found out.”
“Oh…Listen, Blair, I wanted to tell you. The school told her that we were her best bet at getting to you since your foster parents wouldn’t let you speak to her. That’s why she called me. I told her that I would be more than happy to look after you, and she agreed that it would be best.”
“That’s great, Gee. I appreciate it all, really. But that doesn’t answer my question. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Well, Blair, I wanted to…really I did. But you were still grieving from losing your parents and your brother. You had to deal with a whole new life, school, and everything I didn’t want to overwhelm you.”
“Did it ever occur to you that through all that shiz, that getting out of the hell hole would be good news?”
“Blair I’m sorry, really, I wasn’t thinking. Honest, I was trying to do what I thought was best.”
I sighed, it was true. I couldn’t be mad at him. He really did care.
“Alright, your forgiven.”
“Good, thank you. Now let’s talk about something else. You have the hot’s for Mikey.”
“What! I do not!”
“Admit it! I know those drawings were yours!”
“So does he! Look, I wasn’t paying any attention to what I was doing. To be honest I was in a daze. But that doesn’t mean anything!”
“uh-huh. Hey, Happy Birthday. We’re waiting on Ray, we were going to throw you a surprise party, but Ray dropped the cake in the store parking lot, so they had to make another one. He just texted me saying he was on his way.”
“On his Way…” I laughed.
“Shut up,” he chuckled.
We walked into Mikey’s room and grabbed a controller. We played for about 30 minutes. Then the doorbell rang…
