Convicted:Chapter 31 #_#

POV-Janelle- the thought of knowing that Gerard doesn’t know I exist terrified me. I suppose it was because I was afraid of his reaction when he finds out that I do exist and have been living with his friends for a while now. Once we were out of the desert, we came to a shocking reality when we hit the big city. BL/ind had exposed themselves and was taking over the city. By the look of things, people were willingly going along with it. Frank was driving and I was in the passage seat, Mikey and Jessica were in the back. It didn’t take long to get to the penitentiary after we got to the city, it was about 5 miles out of town. We parked about a half of the last mile away from the building and walked the rest of the way there. I glanced up at Frank; he had gone from all smiles to a face so serious it would scare the Grinch. The outside of the penitentiary was dirty, dark, moldy, and gloomy. You could tell by the style of the building that it was old, probably built about late 1800’s. My question was why did they keep it running for so long before finally shutting it down? We managed to sneak into the building using a graveling hook and some rope to climb up and into the open second floor window. The only problem was that Venom was afraid of heights so Frank had to help her climb up while Mikey and I watched for any guards or worse….Demetria. Once inside, we headed down the stinky hallway. We hide inside a small corridor while we looked at the map that Zekeal had given Venom of the penitentiary. Gerard was on the first floor, so all we had to do was go down the three flights of stairs, go three halls over and 7 doors down. Then we had our man. All we have to do was not get caught. We heard footsteps and held really still, hopping not to be detected. “Only another 30 more minutes till his exaction,” said a male voice. “Aw yes, Mr. Way will never see it coming,” said a female voice. Demetria, I would know that voice anywhere. I peeked around the corner, they were gone. So we bolted down the steps and over to the right hall. We counted rooms as we ran down the hall, finally thankful we were at 7. I gripped the door knob, un sure of my next move. Kobra, Ghoul, and Venom all told me to open it. For a moment I wasn’t sure if saving Gerard would be a good idea. Then I remembered Demetrius’s conversation. I pulled the door open, and froze. Gerard was sitting there staring up at me with fear in his eyes. I wanted with everything in me to run over there and hug him, but I held myself back, knowing he doesn’t know who I am. Man, not being known sucks, especially when you thought you knew the person.

POV-Mikey- “Midnight, what’s wrong?” I asked. She was just standing there, heartbroken look on her face, and frozen solid. “H-h-he doesn’t…” she trailed off but I knew where she was heading to. I couldn’t get around her to get to Gerard, so I gave Janelle a light shove forward. She stepped back and out of the door way. Frank, Jessica, and I filed into Gerard’s room. Janelle said she wanted to stay in the hall, I didn’t argue with her. I shut Gerard’s door and we began explaining what went on while he was gone. His room was small, a twin size bed, a desk, chair, and a small TV filled it completely. My only brother was sitting on his bed, his face was dirty and he was drawling something. I didn’t care to see what it was though. I told Gerard all about the Killjoy’s and how we came to rescue him. When he asked why we didn’t notice he was gone I didn’t even hesitate with my answer. I told him all about Zekeal. When we finally were done talking, we snuck out Gerard’s window. I had to grab Janelle from the hall because Frank almost forgot her cause he was so focused on Jessica.

POV-Janelle- once back at the station, I went straight to my room. Mikey had sat Bandit down and told her everything about what happened with Gerard. Zekeal had left when we arrived, but his daughter Jessica stayed she was a Killjoy now. I didn’t see Bandit’s reaction because I was too busy ignoring them. I wasn’t sure who I was mad at myself, BL/ind, or the guys. I was beyond finding reasons for my anger. I began throwing and slamming things around my room. I through myself onto my bed, my face facing the mattress and I screamed and cried. Hearing nothing but the muffled sound of my screaming I hadn’t realized someone was knocking on my door. I figured it was Bandit. When I finally did realize it, I quickly wiped away the tears. “Come on it,” I said. But it wasn’t Bandit who opened the door. It was Gerard.
