“When vampire children are naughty they are reminded of a certain legend called The Insane One.” A boy with dark black hair said to his younger brother, who was trembling in his covers.
“Gerard....” the boy whined.
“I know about the prank you played on Master Herrik.” Gerard laughed, winking.
“You won't tell, will you?” The brother pleaded.
“No, Mikey, I won't.” Gerard said, grinning. Mikey sighed in relief. Then he gave Gerard a curious stare.
“What's The Insane One?” Mikey asked. Gerard gasped.
“You don't know the legend? I thought they told you in school!”
“No, Gee. They didn't tell me. They didn't tell you either. Mistress Lancing told you.” Mikey muttered.
“Oh, yeah! I forgot.” Gerard giggled. “I still think luring her with blood into a bucket of holy water was the coolest.
“You almost got whipped!” Mikey gasped.
“It would have been worth it. Mistress Lance is a she-devil.” Gerard said. They both laughed.
“Well, she really is.” Mikey answered. Gerard hoped Mikey would leave it alone, now that he was distracted, but of course, he didn't.
“Who is the Insane One?” Mikey whined.
“It's just a legend, Mikes, it's not real.” Gerard said, awkwardly.
“Gee!!!” Mikey threw his pillow at him. Gerard groaned.
“Fine! I'll tell you, but after I do, you'll be wishing I hadn't.” he warned. Mikey just nodded eagerly and listened closely.
“Once there was a vampire girl who was so intelligent, she was at Master tier by the time she was our age.” He said.
“But you're only ten!” Mikey protested.
“Yeah, I know.” Gerard grinned. “Anyway, this girl learned about all of our Master's secrets, and decided she didn't want to be a vampire anymore.”
“You can't stop being a vampire!” Mikey scoffed.
“She figured out how, Mikey.” Gerard said. Mikey's jaw dropped.
“She did?” Mikey gasped.
“Yes. She ran to the colony of Blue Horns that live across the country.” Gerard said. Mikey shuddered. Blue Horns. A race of demons who made their entire lives about killing vampires.
“Did the Blue Horns turn her human?” Mikey asked.
“No, they didn't.” Gerard said. “They took her in as one of their own. However, after she grew up, they pitted her against the Vampir Impress.” Gerard gasped.
“How much did she train?” Mikey asked, enraptured.
“None. She didn't train at all. The Vampir Impress captured her, and said she would give the girl one more chance. She said if the girl could deny her knowledge of our race, then she would be free to live with the vampire people. The girl just spat in the Impress's face.”
Mikey turned pale. “G-Gerard.....what did they do to her?” He asked.
“They say she was turned into a human baby, and sent through time to a random day in the future. They thought she could help man with her knowledge, or destroy man, causing the bloodshed to fill us forever more.” Gerard said, in a very matter-of-fact way.
“Would she ever remember who she was?” Mikey asked.
“They say that if she ever found and kissed her true love, they would awaken her older spirit. The two personalities would mesh, creating the most powerful woman on the Earth.” Gerard said. Mikey's eyes widened. “And with power comes her insanity......and perhaps the destruction of the Earth.” Gerard said, laying down next to Mikey.
“Wait.....the destruction of the Earth???” Mikey gulped.
“That's what I said. So you better behave, or else you could end up like her....a ticking apocalypse.” Gerard said, laughing. “That's enough stories for tonight. Get some sleep, Mikey.”
“Gerard!” Mikey protested, but Gerard was already fast asleep. No, it was just some legend. It couldn't be true.....Mikey lay down and fell asleep, cuddling with his stuffed unicorn.
