The Pledge of Alliegence

Every morning at school, we say the pledge of alliegence. Why? What are we pledging to? I'm trying to find anwers by googling it, but nothing is making any sense... Some people say we're pledging to america, and some say we're pledging to the government... If that's the case, I refuse to say it.
"I'd rather be deaf, dumb, and blind than pledge alliegence to a man of your kind."
Isn't it a form of control, having students recite it every day? "One nation, under god"
What if there is no god?
I don't want to pledge to something that I have no idea about. I don't want to be controlled in any Way.
