Story part 5

A month went by, and it was time. Our forces were smaller than their's by a long shot. Gerard and I were standing in the center of our front defense line, holding hands and I asked him "How many of those guys were ours?" His eyes scanned their huge army and said "A lot of them." Then, he let go of my hand and turned around to talk to our army. "Everyone! Hold your lines where we place you. Stand up to them and fight! Rory and the other archers, take to the trees. Stay there utill you're needed on the ground. Caleb and the swordsmen, stay towards the front with me as our first line of defense. Archers, you position yourselves right in front of them. Everyone else, scatter and no matter what HOLD YOUR GROUND. I can't stress this enough. And go!"
(GEE'S POV.)
I watched Rory lead the other archers to the trees around us. She darted up the tallest tree quickly, gracefully and silently. I'd never seen anyone more beautiful in my life. Her orange hair was tied in a tight bun on the back of her head, and her black clothes disgused her perfectly in the branches of the trees. Her eyes surveyed the snow- covered battlefield, looking for that perfect shot. I heard the other side's battle cry, and they started to charge. Immidiatley, the archers went to work, taking down three or four people every few shots. Me and the other swordfighters got our job done too.
But, I heard something that chilled me to the core. Rory screamed loud enough to shatter glass. I turned my head, and saw her keel over and start to fall out of her tree. One of the other swordsmen was at the base of the tree and was able to catch her. As soon as I saw her start to fall, I bolted towards her, dropping my sword somewhere along the way.
When I made it over to her, she was crying, holding onto something poking out of the side of her stomach, just above her left hip. About four people were gathered around her. "Move! Out of the way! Gimme room! Back to your posts!" I shouted at them as I got over there. "Help!" She said through her tears when she saw me. "What happened Rory?" I asked her when the swordsman handed her to me. She got her breath long enough to say "One of our archers misjudged where his shot was going and it hit me. It hurts so bad, make it stop!"
I took one look at her, and I knew she was in some serious pain. Half of her hair had come out of her bun, there were pine needles in her hair, and there was a lot of blood where her hands were. "All right, lemme see." I said to her as I moved her hands out of the way. I looked at the arrow in her side and said "Okay, it's not in there deep, but it's bleeding pretty good. Someone, get me one of the medics! We gotta get her patched up. She's losing a lot of blood. Are you okay?" She looked at me, and in typical Rory fasion said "No, I've got an arrow in my side for giggles and I'm bleeding just for fun. I'm not okay, I promise." I chuckled and said "Okay, I guess that was a stupid question. Look, here comes the medic. They'll help you." The medic came running over to us with her supplies she would need. I couldn't bear to look when she pulled the arrow out of Rory's side, but I heard the ear- splitting scream. I hated to see Rory in any kind of pain.
(RORY'S POV.)
When the medic pulled the arrow out of my side, it was easily the most painful thing I'd ever felt before. I screamed so loud it hurt even my ears, and I started crying agian. Gerard held me even tighter and said "It's okay, I'm here, I'm here." But, once the arrow came out, the gash started to bleed and hurt even more. How is that possible, I thought. Then the medic started freaking out and saying that she wouldn't have enough bandages to patch me up. "I'm gonna need to acutally see the gash." She said. She unzipped my jacket and moved the bottom hem of my tank top out of the way to reveal the cut, which actually turned out to be a very deep and very bad cut. I looked at it, then looked at Gerard. "You said it wasn't that bad!" His eyes widened and he said "I didn't think it was bad! But clearly it is. Don't worry, you're gonna be fine." I rolled my eyes and the medic said "Well, it doesn't really look that way right now. She's losing a lot of blood really fast." My eyes widened and I said "Don't TELL me that! It's just gonna freak me out even more!" The medic jumped back a little and said "Okay, okay, I'm sorry." All of a sudden, I felt a little woozy.
(GEE'S POV.)
"I feel light headed." Rory said, "Is that bad?" I nodded and said "Yeah probably. That's not good." The medic said "Then we have to work double- time over here." I kept my eyes on her face because all of the blood was scaring me. The thick blanket of snow around us was drenched in bright red blood. She started coughing and said "My throat feels funny. Are you sure I'm gonna be okay?" I ran my hand through her hair, which had pretty much come out of her bun at this point, and said "We're working on it. Don't worry. You're tough, you'll be fine." I threw the medic a look, meaning to say 'Don't say a word right now.' Rory started shaking in my arms and asked me again if she was going to be okay. "What did I tell you the last time? You're gonna be fine. Don't worry." She shook her head and said "You keep saying I'm gonna be fine, but I don't feel fine. I feel sick." I tried to think. Why would it be hurting even more and making her sick? "Lemme see that arrow." I said to whoever was over there. Someone handed me the arrow that had hit her and I checked out the tip. "You got hit with a poison arrow." I said to her. Her eyes widened as she slowly turned her head towards me and said "Again, DON'T TELL ME THAT!"
But, she wasn't looking very good. She was really pale, her lips were a light shade of blue and her breathing was getting shallower and shallower with each breath. Her head was rolling around in circles too. "We're losing her pulse!" The medic yelled at me. Panic started to set in. I had to tell her how I felt. Before she... y'know, because it wasn't looking like she was going to make it. I grabbed her chin in my hand, turned her face towards me and said "Rory... RORY! Look at me. I just want you to know this. I really really like you. I think you're awesome. Try and fight. For me. I don't want to lose you. I love you." She smiled and said "I love you too. I'm givin' it all I got. Belive me, I'm fighting." Then, I took a big leap of faith in her final minutes: I kissed her. She looked at me and said "Okay, now I believe you. I'm gonna miss you." I smiled. "Now, just shut your eyes.... kiss me goodbye.... and sleep." She smiled weakly. I kissed her one more time. Then her head rolled back. Her eyes closed. Her skin turned cold. Her tight grip on my hand loosened.
Rory was gone.
