I sit here before all of these people dressed in black; for once I fit in. If you were to scan the room you would see black roses decorating each row of benches, you would see people mourning, you would see a priest blabbing on about how this person in the coffin next to him will go to heaven. The coffin; propped on a table with scattered red roses along the sides of the body, as if lying in roses. Candles burned of either side of the wooden fixture in the center. Black veils scattered throughout the benches of people. The air was dense; the only reason being it was raining outside. Windows remained shut and the lack of a heater for the building made the room cold to the bone. People would go up and tell their stories about this person next to them. Every story was built around the same premises; a happy memory that sent a few laughs through the crowd, then a meaningful story that taught a lesson of some sort, then it ended with a final goodbye, sending the sorrow through the people once again. The older ones would remind everyone else to live their lives to the fullest. All though; in a world like this, there is no living.
If you were to look to the left, you would see me; a blonde haired, blue eyed girl. 15 years of age, heavy eyeliner, straightened hair, wearing her usual all black. For someone who has no family it is quite unusual for this girl; a funeral is nothing like she had pictured. In her mind, it was more dramatic. The eerie silence would sweep over people and the room would fill with pain and sorrow. But the room now was empty with few sniffles coming from people she’d never meant. There was no pain, or sorrow; just emptiness. Not the good kind either, no emotions what so ever.
This girl sat there contemplating how lucky this old woman in the casket had been; the Black Parade had actually come for her. She thought about the pain the woman had suffered just disappearing; poof. It was all too easy for this woman, yet so difficult for the living 15 year old that sat before her. She got up before the ceremony was finished; heels made no sound down the corridor, for she had black and white converse on underneath her black dress.
People watched as she made her way out of the building with looks of disgust on their faces; she, being fully aware of her rudeness, ignored all of them. This had become a habit; this and staring at the floor as she walked. Never making eye contact with people for fear that they would talk to her. She walked with her hands behind her back; walking casually across the damp grass, weaving in and out between gravestones. The slightest turn of her heal kept her from kicking the various graves that scattered the well-kept lawn.
She wished she could spend all of her time here, like in a sappy movie; where the girl always has a ‘get-away’ place. Unfortunately, life doesn’t play out like a movie for girls like this one. This one is special for a different reason…
*A Time Where Things Were Normal*
“Honey come to the kitchen to eat” her mother called. Making no move to get out of bed she moaned, “There is bacon” her mother called. She sprang to life; she threw on a pair of blue jeans, a yellow t-shirt, a grey cardigan, and black flats. She made her way to the kitchen after running a brush through her hair. “How did you sleep honey?” her mother asked. “Good” she said as she grabbed a piece of bacon and threw it on her plate.
Once breakfast was done she got her shoulder bag and threw her binders in. School was normal; she fit right in with the group she was placed in by the counsel. See, the counsel is an organization, if you will, of people from the state. They decipher what group of people you will be placed in, where you fit in and will benefit the most from. I, for example, was placed in the middle class group; everyone wore bright colors and never had any problems, except the occasional drama. But those are girls; there will always be some sort of drama.
My name is Skye.
