Berlin Fan Tour Report

On November 3rd, 2010, My Chemical Romance brought the “World Contamination Tour” to Kesselhaus in Berlin, Germany. MCR fan tour reporter Katrina S. was there, and had this to say about the show:

“By the end of this incredible show, everyone from the band to the audience was all sweaty but damn happy and thrilled... this was an unforgettable night and I am sure everyone who was there cannot wait to go to the next MCR concert.” - Katrin S.

Honestly, it is pretty hard to find the right words to describe this amazing, unforgettable evening in Berlin. Our trip started off with confusion all the WAY because we had a little trouble finding the location. As soon as we saw the painted spiders on the sidewalk, we knew where to head and sure got all excited. The excitement grew even bigger when we were waiting for the meet and greet in front of the entrance. After a while, we entered the building and were told to wait there for the band. This alone was already a little surreal since we were able to spot Ray and Mikey from the balcony, who were posing for some pictures.

Some minutes later, the band walked up the stairs and the first second was like “Um… OMFG!”. I am very happy that we were able to keep ourselves from making squeaky girlie noises. ;) They walked up to us to say hello and shake hands. I found it somehow very funny and sweet at the same time that Gerard actually introduced himself to me. Yeah right, like I would not know who was shaking my hand!

We then got to talk to them for a while and I have to say, they were all really relaxed, friendly and polite. What do you talk about when you meet My Chemical Romance? Well, somehow Frank and Mikey came up with the topic ‘horses’ and my friend Gül told them that she fell off a horse two days ago. So the three of them had a little chit-chat about aching bones and soon agreed on the fact that horses can be scary creatures.

While Frank was signing my booklet (and writing down my name, yay), I gave him my belated birthday congrats and asked him how he had celebrated his birthday. He told me that they had played a show at Wembley Stadium that day, opening for a football match, and he added with a big grin on his face that it had been the best way of celebrating his birthday. After all of them had signed our items, I asked Ray how it feels to be back on tour. He answered that they love the work in the studio but that they are happy to be back on stage and share their music with the fans. When he said that he hopes we will enjoy the show, I answered “I hope so, too.”, which made him laugh. At this point I have to say, Ray, if you read this – I was actually going to say “We definitely will!”.

Afterwards, we got to take pictures with the band and I still cannot really believe that I now got several shots with me standing between Frank and Gerard. The band finally thanked us for coming – and we sure thanked them for taking the time and wished them a great show.

We spent the first 3 songs of the show in the pit and took pictures of the band. This was, again, quite unbelievable since the pit was so narrow that I actually could have reached out and touched Mikey’s feet. The show was truly awesome. The energy and atmosphere in the room were incredible right from the start. I did not manage to take many good pictures but only because all band members were moving around like crazy all the time. Seriously, who cares about good pictures when the show is awesome?!

The band played a great mixture of new and old songs. Watching them perform some of their new ones was awesome and it has made waiting for the new record even harder. When they played some of their older ones like ‘Thank you for the venom’ and ‘Welcome to the black parade’, each and everyone in that room was jumping and singing along at the top of their lungs. By the end of this incredible show, everyone from the band to the audience was all sweaty but damn happy and thrilled.

All in all, this was an unforgettable night and I am sure everyone who was there cannot wait to go to the next MCR concert. As Mikey noted down on my friend’s booklet: Rock on!
