"This Song Is For The Hardcore Kids" [Rock Shows (I know you're jealous C=)]
I've just gotten home from Sydney, where I spent a few days with my mum and my sister, and we saw AFI, and Paramore.
It was totally fuckin' awesome. I live for that kinda shit. I feel better then I have in ages. C=
I'll talk about the AFI concert first. It was better then the Paramore concert (not that Paramore was bad), the people at AFI just seemed to know what they were doing, that they were experienced, where as it was pretty obvious that there were a lot of people who where at their first show at Paramore.
AFI
Twas amazing. Gallows was their support band (if you don't know them, CHECK THEM OUT! Great hardcore British punk band). The singer from Gallows, Frank Carter, got down on the floor with us and made us get into a circle and mosh. He really got everyone into it. The quote in the title of this is something he said at one point, when he got us to open the circle up as big as we could, which was pretty large, seeing as we were in the Luna Park big top (basically, huge venue). The great thing about moshing with those guys (and girls) was that if anyone fell down, everyone around them would just pick them up. It's like, and unwritten rule (remember that), though it seems only the 'experienced' know it.
Frank also got us to make a human pyramid, and that was fun. It was about four rows of people high. I was on the end of the second row, and Frank climbed up my back to get to the top (yeah, you know how special I feel, lol).
When AFI came out, my sister and I were right up the front, hugging the barrier the whole time, as close as we could get to the stage. And, we were right in front of Jade's ego riser, which was awesome C=. Everyone knew the words, everyone sang along, and everyone really got into it. The vibe there pretty much screamed 'we love this band, there's no where else we'd rather be'. And it was fantastic. Davey really got into it the whole show, and made it very theatrical with his movements. If you've ever been to an AFI concert, you'll understand why people think he's a freak. Not that there's anything wrong with that, 'cause he's fuckin' brilliant. They played heaps of tracks off of Crash Love, but also some of their older stuff.
My favourites where Medicate, which they opened with, Veronica Sawyer Smokes, Davey really got into that one, Beautiful Thieves, it's the kinda of song that has lots of 'audience participation', and Dancing Through Sunday. Miss Murder was good too because everyone (and I mean, everyone) danced all through that. I can't remember whether they ended they show with MM, or DTS..
Paramore.
Like I said, I had more fun at AFI. A lotta the kids at Paramore had never been to a concert before, so they were complaining about being in the pit most of the show. That kinda pissed me off. Also, (I'd guess) over half of the people there were teenie-boppers, and girly girls (I trust you know what I mean), the kind of girls who can't stand breaking a nail, let alone dancing for over three hours in a mosh pit (after the show I heard a few girls complaining about how sweaty it was. Seriously, what did they expect?). It kinda put a dampener on the whole vibe there.
But other then that, the show was awesome. Haley looked fuckin' gorgeous. And they sounded brilliant. I really can't complain about the band. Some one threw a stuffed koala up onto the stage, and Haley and Jeremy kicked it around for a bit. I think it got kicked into the crowd, then thrown back up on stage again. Josh wasn't there, Haley said something about him being back home getting ready to get married or something, so Taylor's (older??) brother was standing in for him. When they played The Only Exception, they whole crowd was swaying, and Haley commented after that it was really beautiful. They ended they show with Misery Business, which was good. They pretty much left us with a really fun vibe. At the end of the show Zac threw his drum sticks into the crowd, and I almost caught one, but the guy in front of me got it first. Then he and another chick practically wrestled for it. I have no idea who got it in the end, but It was funny to watch. C=
So, now I'm home, with three new band shirts (my sister got a Paramore hoodie), my feet are still sore, and so is my neck from looking up. But I don't care, 'cause I feel better then I have in a while, and I'm hoping this'll last a few days. In two weeks my sister and I are going to see The Used, and Gallows are coming back in October to do a headlining tour, so we're gonna try to go see them.
I have to say, to any AFI fans, if they ever tour near you, go see them, 'cause it's fuckin' worth it. Even if you have to travel. Just do it.
C=
Think Happy Thoughts
xoxo Frankie
