My Concert Experiences
I have been to 6 different My Chem shows.
Three in Virginia, Two in Philly, and one in New Jersey.
Since this seems like a good enough place to blog about my experiences I will do so-
1. 930 Club, Washington DC, November 2005 - Nintendo Fusion Tour
There was plus de childrens in the audience. Gerard have said "I know you all got Cellphones, To Call Your MOMS!" And he made us meow like some kind of giant rabid monster kittens. Best My Chemical Romance I've ever been to, And best concert ever. I made a swanky dress, got beer spilled on it, Sang Under Pressure to the background of Ice Ice Baby, I quoted Invader Zim, skipped back to Erlend's truck doing circles around him, and found myself being Gawked at by Mikey Way (and scowled at by some girl) from inside their tour bus.
2. Patriot Center - GMU. Taste of Chaos Tour (sometime after the first one, probably still in 2005).
This is the very venue where I graduated from High School. On my Graduation day I sang a Solo to my fellow graduates. I was excited after having such a fun time at the 930 club to see someone I like preform there as well. But this was the worst MCR Show I have ever seen. Umn The other band..... Kill Switch Engage was amazing. But this was the first time I had ever been to a venue where the audience spent all their time texting and lazing around- We had stadium seating, so We couldn't really get up and dance, but the kids on the floor stood there taking movies with their phones...
The best part of that night happened as we were leaving the show. The honda element had recently come out. and it was this square looking vehicle. So I would go around pointing them out and questioning "What kind of element looks like that?" Well there was a boxy looking car sitting outside the venue, adverting for the show. And I said my line, to which the BF responded "Thats a Scion Stacy." And he was right. And now, whenever he is right and I am so obliviously and obviously wrong- he quotes that evening.
3. Tweeter Center - Camden New Jersey, some time in 2006.
A coworker saw me wearing the hoodie I had gotten at the first show, and when she won tickets gave them to me. As each show before then I made an outfit, and one for Erlend.
It was the first time I heard Headfirst for Halos Live (which was one of my favorites). It was the first time I smoked cloves inside venue (when they were legal you couldn't even smoke them in a smoking restaurant). They PLayed Erlend's favorite song too, Cemetery Drive. We left early cause I had work the next morning. Since the tweeter center was set up in a way where all the places were seats, I could only dance in my little square, but I went crazy for my song. Then we jetted out of there.
And for the first time discovered that ever road out of NJ, takes us back into NJ.
(ok these next 2 I don't remember when was which... I think I have then in the right order, but these days I spent most of my time drunk or high. so its kinda hazy ah the joys of being 25)
4. Temple University - Philadelphia. The Black Parade. February of some such 2007 or something.
This one was the first big concert kind of Gwar Style show I had ever seen. There was Fire, and Confetti and People everywhere, falling on the ground. Girls in all kinds of old style dresses, Old people, young people, all kinds of people. I had made a fancy dress to wear to the show, but since the ground was covered in snow I decided not to wear it. Plus my date was in casual clothes.
This was the first of 2 my chem shows I went to without my squishy. I went with my lover at the time. His name is Kevin. He dun't like me anymore, he has the hots for Gerard Way...anyway
we had a nice time, he had never been to a concert before, so his first time was very theatrical.
This was a strange experience for me. I felt like I was being fixated on by Ray and Gerard. I am sure it not possible, But every time I looked up on stage, I was being looked back at.
Rays family has been there for the show... he called them out.
Some kid was getting all crazy footed around me, dancing all insanely. He totally sprained his ankle and fell to the floor in front of me.
I Serenaded Kevin with the Help of the band, and explained to him a good punk show was not noteworthy unless someone could go home and explain their new injury.
I tried to catch a confetti, and it just fell away from my hand. I picked one up from the floor, and it never made it home with me.
I couldn't sleep at all that night. Even in the great hotel we rented... I just stayed up feeling like I had forgotten something. I sat watching the snow fall from the hotel window.
5. Merriweather Post Pavilion, Some back water corner on Virginia. I am pretty sure this was 2007.
There was a girl I was introduced to from some lady who lived in california. We were all fans, so she said I had to meet this girl. So I did. She bought tickets to go see MCR, and invited me.
I wore the dress I had made for the last show, Met a few ladies who talked to me about their anime preferences. I wandered to the back of the venue- high up on the hill, watching Gerard Way pace back and forth on the Jumbo Tron as if he never wanted to be there. (FYI i never saw him in concert with white hair)
I let my co-hort bound around as she wanted. My Erlend was sitting in the parking lot reading a book, So I spent most of the evening drawing stars all over myself.
My buddy thought we should try and meet the band- so we stood outside a fence for about an hour before this unhappy venue employee told us to skeedattle. I got a really bad feeling- so I ditched, and Went home-
Again I had the feeling I forgotten something. Strangely enough, so did she. She was practically hopping mad that she couldn't get me to where she thought I was supposed to be- which was with the band. I didn't the use of her fervor or drive.
Is a band right? is just some peoples right? What am I to 5 random guys from New Jersey? She made me think things I had no use knowing...
She totally changed my perception of the fan base, and through her I met some of the MCR fans who were setting up suicide cults. *shivers* Medicated or not, those were some scary days.
6. Electric Factory, Philadelphia. 2008.
This was the saddest MCR I had ever seen. It was the day before the last show of their most recent tour. The crowd was standing there like zombies. One of the kids who wanted to dance was kicked out from the front for doing so. He came back to dance with me. Erlend didn't much like that. SO he went off. There was the girls who seemed to always be making her rounds, and upon seeing me every-time she passed she seemed to really want to kiss me. Erlend didn't much like that either. I tried to get him to dance with me, he would not.
I made alot of noise, I couldn't believe people were not moving. Erlend seemed to inspire people to keep a good few feets distance from me.
This asian couple came and danced in front of us, and proceeded to fall to the floor. I kneeled down and repaired the hole in the floor (Don't Ask).
I had recently been to Jam Band music shows, and learned the joy in calling out "free bird." Someone told me that a real rock band will be able to play Free Bird if you call it out at a show. I had been hearing all this "MCR is Emo" junk. So I tried it out. Turns out, they are not classic rock...
They changed costumes, and came out to play some of their older music, but there was no spark in it. It might have been the sweat, it might have been the lights, but it looked like Gerard had started crying. When it was all over, the crowd seemed highly disappointed. I was disgustingly upset about the waste of our limited fundage. On the long drive home My boyfriend suggested that I never go to a My Chemical Romance Show ever again.
And because of this experience- I agreed.
But I will always cherish that first show. And if I can never get that day or feeling back, I will always remember it happily and fondly.
