I've always been really interested in my heritage and family history. I've always found it EXTREMELY interesting and awesome what I can dig up about my ancestors and past family members, especially when its really unrealistic stuff. For instance: just a few minutes ago I found a source that said that a man that had a variation of my last name, who I could possibly be related to, ended up being Pope Leo XI (who's real name is Alessandro OTTAVIANO de' Medici.) So that's a little out there. xP
But there's also some really cool stuff. My last name is Ottavi (if any of you start creeping on me or stalking me, be warned. My Uncle is a sergeant. He will KICK YO ASS), and there's about 80,000 (okay, a little exaggeration but whatever) variations of that last name. Ottavi could have come from anything, but when I mentioned it to my dad, he instantly replied: Ottaviano. So did some heavy research on the surname Ottaviano, and apparently it was a SUPER important noble family in Italy in the 1700's, and there's also a town/city in Italy called Ottaviano. I found that quite awesome.
I also have gotten an obsession with family crests/coat of arms. That's what the picture is, the family coat of arms for Ottaviano.
Now, I'm not all Italian. My grandfather, who we call Papo (grandfather in Italian) is totally, 100% pure Italian blooded. His parents, my great grandparents, came on a motherfucking BOAT from Italy. (3rd generation immigrant right here.) But, my Papo married my Nona, who is really, really German and (I think) a little Irish. So my dad is mostly Italian/(maybe) Irish/ German. Then he married my mom, who is seriously a fucking melting pot of heritages. She's Irish, Polish, and German (those are the main ones), and then my grandmother has a French maiden name. So as far as I know, I'm Italian, Irish, German, Polish, and the TINIEST bit French. Yep xP
