Welly-well-well. (ohmigerard NEVER let me use that expression again). Here I was, just mindin' my business in the living room, trying to make my wordcount for NaNoWriMo while my family watched The Voice, that singing show... All of a sudden, a bunch of the contestants got together and performed SING.
Yes, tumbleweeds, MCR's SING. I'mma go ahead and ramble about the performance, if it's all the same to you. Analyze it and get all opinion-y and procrastinate from my NaNo novel to make sure y'alls is informed about how the TV girls and guys did with our Fabulous Four's famous anthem....
In short, only four people in this world can actually perform SING. Nobody else understands the emotion, captures the power, or endeavors to treat it as any more than a song. It's more than a song, but only Gerard, Mikey, Ray, and Frank have ever been able to make it that. Ya know?? Give the sheet music to the Voice's house band, and everything special about SING's instrumentation gets whitewashed. Vocalists don't take the opportunity to unleash themselves on the song; most of the Voice contestants were like SLEEPING through it! I'm sorry. My three favorites (Cody the gay cowboy, De'Borah the gender ambiguous preacher's daughter, and whoever that boy with the glasses who had all the health problems and almost died is) actually did pretty good, but nobody channeled their inner Gerard Way. They sung it just like you'd expect a bunch of mainstreamers to, and the band seems to've not even LISTENED to the song. Lyric flubs aside, they just didn't hit the emotion.
Care to throw in your two cents, my motor babies and Zone rats?
