In the key of B flat? Glee, what were you thinking??

Okay, this is apparently all old news to you guys, but new news to me (I don't have cable and I have not been on the site for weeks because school has started back up).

So I promise, one rant blog, that's it. Also because I have a shit ton of school work and I can't afford to sit around on this site all day and rant about things, as much as I would love to.

For me, I've never been a fan of Glee. They have often done harm to many songs that I love dearly. So when I came on this site today and saw that you guys were blogging about Glee doing "Sing", my heart dropped.

My first thought was "What would possess MCR to give Glee the rights to perform this song?" Then I had to remind myself that they are working artist and having bills to pay, so not a big deal.

They're not selling out because selling out is when you specifically change your sound dramatically to appeal to a wider population and get more money. Which I do not believe they did on this past CD at all.

My next thought was "...wow, this sounds like fucking shit in a different key".

I then went on to discover that instead of being in the key of G, Glee bumped it up a minor third and did it in the key of B flat.

I mean, I know why they did it. In music therapy, when we perform for a client or when we want a client to sing with us, so that it fits everyone's vocal ranges, we change the key.

However, that only really happens when it's children's songs or older songs (like, 1930s).

When we are with an adolescent population, we stay as true to the original key as possible, even if that means stretching our vocal ranges. Because of that fact that it is more likely that the clients will enjoy the song much more if it is in the original key.

The Glee cast must have WEENIE vocal ranges. Or they're probably just complete divas. Because vocally, a minor third is not that big of a difference.

Musically, changing a key can make a huge difference in the quality of the song. Mainly because certain songs sound best in certain keys.

My opinion, "Sing" sounds best in the key of G. It's sounds horrible in the key of B flat.

The reason why some people dislike it so much is because they changed the key. Like I mentioned before, the adolescent population is more likely to enjoy the song when it is sung in it's original key. It's not like they consciously think that way, it's generally a subconscious process if the person isn't musically inclined.

So anyways, there's my rant. I think sounds like fucking shit in the key of B flat.

Glee, you continue to disappoint.
