The Exterminators dragged me along behind them a while until we came to their white van, there they opened the back and threw me in and slammed the doors behind me.
I immediately took in my surroundings so I wouldn’t have to worry about that later. It was as I expected, totally empty. Deeming the back of the van safe I laid down in the middle of the floor with my feet closest to the door. I laid there listening to every sound and feeling every movement as the van jolted to life and began its journey, counting off turns and bumps and listening for changes of a dirt path to a gravel road onto a paved road and so on. When the van finally stopped I immediately checked my solar powered clock on my waist memorizing the amount of time it took to get here from the cliff and the path here and back. It wasn’t something many people thought to do and even less people could pull it off.
I pretended to be asleep when the Exterminators opened the van doors, at any moment in the ride here I would’ve been able to pop the doors open and escape considering they didn’t take any of my weapons but that didn’t fit into my plan plus I wanted them to think they had successfully outdone me in every way.
They grabbed my legs and yanked me halfway out of the van, successfully “waking me up.” I found myself being yanked around and dragged along towards a massive BLI/nd base.
I quickly surveyed the outside of the base, I hadn’t been here before, but this must have been the main base that I had been searching for for who knows how long. I noted the security cameras and access pads required to get in. The Exterminators dragged me towards the front entrance and keyed in a number, opening the doors and I quickly moved the access number from short term memory to long term memory, hoping that they didn’t change numbers often.
After being dragged thru the front doors several more Exterminators joined the few that already had me to escort me away. Now I found myself in a small cell that they had thrown me in. It was a simple cell, white concrete walls with a steel door with a handle only on the outer side of the door. The floor was white too and there was no furniture which left me sitting in a corner of the room against 2 white walls. Though there was a small “window” about 6 foot up the wall, covered by bars and there was no actual window. The whole room was about 5ft by 5ft, I couldn’t even lay down if I wanted to. I curled my legs up and rested my head on my knees it thought.
She would be at base now, talking with my team, telling them about my kidnapping. Of course there was no telling what they would think, they had no idea about her or who she was, not even Bomb. What would they think about a mysterious girl showing up at their undetectable base, dressed in total black, and telling them that they had taken me. Why would it matter to this disturbing girl what happened to me. Would she tell them she was my twin sister? Would they believe her? Of course there was a major resemblance between us, well for starters we were identical twins but still, they could think it was me and BLI/nd had brainwashed me, or they could think she was my clone. Maybe I should have told someone about my twin sister long ago. I hadn’t seen her in so long, she ran away from home a few years before BLI/nd took over. I had stayed in touch because I knew where she went and I would always know where she was but still. It was a rare occasion for us to work together or to even see each other. But I had needed her. She now goes by Midnight Madness but shortened it down to Midnight, oh how I missed her.
I jumped back to awareness of my own situation when there was a rattling of keys in the hall outside the door. I had to wonder if it was for me or someone else, how many other’s were locked up here? I listened closely as a door opened, it was followed by screaming and the door slammed shut again. The screaming continued but got quieter as the source of screaming was moved farther away.
This whole scenario reminded me of my favorite book, it was about a scientist that created a disease that used your own DNA against you and pretty much melted your organs and you bled out from all your pores, your eyes, your fingernails, your ears, everywhere. This particular moment reminded me of a part where the victims convulsed on cots and threw blood across the walls as I imagined what was going on with the screaming victim that was presumably being tortured down the hall. (This is a real book, it’s called Germ and its by Robert Liparulo, it’s a really good book, my all time favorite book, you should really check it out.)
I sighed and leaned my head back into the corner of the wall, who knows how long I’ll be waiting here. Eventually they’ll probably come to torture me, but they may wait a few days and let me work up an appetite so I’ll be more willing to give them information. No bother, my mouth was sealed, there was no way anyone would ever get me to talk. I only had to wonder what they wanted from me, I thought Korse just simply wanted to kill me.
I sat there wondering about Korse’s intentions and about Midnight and how she was getting along and slowly found myself drifting off to the steady screaming.
