Total Desolation Part 23

Around 11:30AM we all went back in the house to sit down and chill after our training. Along with the hand to hand combat training and the target practice, I made us all go for a long jog thru the woods and we also had some time to practice on whatever else we wanted. Some of us did a little more hand to hand combat, Bomb and I did a little archery practice, I then moved on to throwing knives and stars. Overall we had a good training session.
I looked around at the 11 of us, most of whom were panting, they weren’t used to such hard training, especially the ones from BLI/nd. We were all mostly stuck in old clothes, worn thru in places, bloody and stained. Some of the younger ones of the group their clothes even slightly too small for them. I just stared at each one of them as they sat talking to one another.
“Alright who’s ready for a raid!?” I asked loudly above all the chatter.
Some hands flew up like rockets and others slowly inched upwards, unsure. But eventually all hands were raised.
“A raid it is then.”
“Can I ask why?” Bomb asked.
“Take a good look around you! We’re dressed in rags, some too small, some beaten and torn, lots of blood stains! We need new clothes!”
There were nods of approval.
“When do we move out?” V asked.
I looked at the clock on the wall. “Let’s all grab something to eat and we’ll head out from there.
We all surged forward to the kitchen and quickly grabbed food so we could leave, we were all happy for this mission. It was something we never got to do anymore, clothes shopping. It was getting us somewhere, more family like, and it appeared as if we were going to be staying together.
We all split up on the bikes and my car again, the same way as we were when we left the BLI/nd base.
Once again I took the lead on our little road trip, leading us to our destination.
Within about a half hour we arrived at the mall, it was left empty when BLI/nd hit because when they hit, they hit us hard. We parked in a spot of the parking lot that was hidden mostly by trees so no one would find our ride.
We began walking up to the mall, hands on our rayguns ready for an attack at any moment. I wasn’t sure whether there would be Dracs here or not, but better safe than sorry, right?
We made it safely to the door but we weren’t in the clear yet, there could be anything in here.
I cautiously pushed the first of many glass doors open, signaling for everyone to stay behind me, staying quiet was a given. I stepped up to the next door and pushed it open, flinching at a slight squeak of unused hinges. I waved the rest of our group in and ushered them to stay in the corner behind some fake plants while I went to do a little investigating.
I walked stealthily up the hall to the end of the entranceway to where it connected with the main part of the mall. I pushed myself flat against the wall with one hand resting on my raygun, looking one way and listening for anything, even the slightest noise of a leak in the roof dripping water.
I stared off down the one side of the mall I could currently see down, watching for movement. I didn’t see anything of interest and so I moved to the other side of the hall to do the same. As I was crossing the hall a flicker of black and white caught my eye on my right side. I quickly turned on my heels and watched the area where I saw the flash of movement. On my right again I saw another flash of movement, this time solid black.
I gripped my raygun tighter and stiffened my arms preparing for a gun fight, slowly inching closer to where I saw the flashes of movement. There was another flash of movement in a store on my right. I quickly turned on my heels and stalked into the store, I noted the dark atmosphere and let my eyes adjust to the darkness before moving forward.
I caught the movement on my left and then again on my right. I didn’t know which to investigate first so I inched to the right wall and surged forward. The room became more like a hallway rather the room it was and I found myself in front of a slightly ajar door, concealing a room that glowed with luminescent lights.
I once again regripped my fingers around my raygun being ready to fire off a massive volley of shots if need be. I slowly picked my right foot up and placed the heel on the floor and had my toes in the air, ready to slam the door open and take my footing. I took a deep breath and put my full force into a shove of my toes, they hit the door, sending it flying open and smashing into the wall behind it.
