We exited the bowling alley thru the back door and walked about a block closer to the Dracs until we were standing behind the general store. Waterfall and Fang entered the store thru the back door and we waited until I saw Bomb look down at us from the roof. This meant that Fang should already be at the front, hopefully smart enough to stay down until the action starts, and that by the time Torture, Raven and I were up there she would be situated. She gave us a thumbs up and I nodded, we were all clear to go.
I took the front of the line with Raven behind me and Torture behind him, we inched our way forward until the wall became windows and I did a quick search of the inside and saw Fang crouched down behind a cashier's desk, he saw us and gave a quick nod signalling he was ready.
I turned my head back until I saw both the guys and gave them a silent look saying “ready?” Torture nodded and Raven just looked at me, I’ll take that as a yes.
I turned around and pulled my ray gun out. I full on sprinted into the middle of the street and let off thirteen clean shots dropping thirteen Dracs in a matter of seconds, that grabbed their attention. I saw a bunch of shots being let off from the roof on the general store along with the front of the store and saw Dracs dropping. I made a dash for a parked car nearby and skidded down behind it for cover letting off another thirteen shots. I saw Raven duck behind a blue public mailbox letting off several more shots. Torture was crouched down behind a nearby car letting off his own shots and I saw Fang had moved out of the store and was standing against the wall just outside the door.
I let off another set of thirteen and watched them drop, there were a lot more Dracs then I had originally thought, I was probably closer to eight dozen. I couldn’t see how I could have ever misjudged so badly, it wasn’t like me, but then thinking about it how many came out of the movie theater and how many were blocked off from view at the time. I was really glad we hadn’t been caught running across the street, we would have surely been destroyed without a proper plan.
There were probably about two dozen left when I yelled to Raven. “It’s time to move out, we gotta see what’s in the theater, they can take care of the rest.”
Then I yelled to Torture “Move towards the theater and take a position by the door and watch our backs, but take care of those out here before you enter.”
I made a loud yell up to the sky for Waterfall to hear “We’re going in! Cover us!”
Raven, Torture, and I all ran from our hiding spots and ran to the movie theater. I saw shots flying presumably from Bomb covering my ass, I let off a few more shots before running into the theater, as did Raven. Torture took up a post outside the door playing watchguard.
I shot in through the doors of the movie theater and immediately took cover behind a big sign advertising some sort of movie about aliens taking over the world, I saw Raven do the same on the other side of the doors. I took a scan of the lobby in front of me, it was empty for the most part and totally destroyed, the building was crumbling and everything had been ripped apart, but then what hadn’t been ripped apart. This was a town long abandoned, one of the first evacuated when Better Living took over.
There were two Dracs standing guard at the entrance to the auditorium with the big screens. What are they here to watch movies? What the fuck is going on? I turned my attention back to Raven who had also made an examination of the lobby. He turned his head to look straight at me as I watched him, I nodded my head in the general direction of the two Dracs, motioning for him to take them down. I wanted to see just how well he could take them down, seeing as he was my current backup and I didn’t know what to expect in here, but this was the perfect opportunity for me to watch him in action.
He took aim and let off two shots, dropping both Dracs with clean shots to the head. He turned his attention back to me and gave a look that said “happy?” I gave him a devilish smile and walked casually up to the Dracs and took a look at their faces, no one I knew.
I adjusted my raygun in my hand and started down the hall until it came to a fork, left or right, they could be anywhere. I turned my attention to Raven. “Left or right?”
“I’ll go left, you go right.”
“Are you fucking nuts, we have no idea what's in here, there's no way we’re splitting up!” I struggled to keep my voice low. There was no way I was letting him out of my sight, who knows what kind of stunts he would try, besides it just wasn’t safe.
He laughed “I thought you were so badass that you could take on anything?”
“I am, but there's no way I’m letting you go alone, you’ll end up killing yourself on my watch.”
“Whatever.”
“Left or right?”
“Left”
We turned left and walked down the hall until we came to the first door. I glanced at Raven with the look that said “ready?” He nodded and I kicked the door open and ran in, raygun raised and ready for anything.
